Lismore City Council Presentation

On Tuesday the 16th of September, NRRL secretary Lydia Kindred gave a presentation to the Lismore City Councillors, requesting that they provide a letter of ‘in principle support’ for a future train service along the line, between Lismore and Booyong, with the potential for a bike/walking path also within the railway corridor.

A large contingent of 14 train supporters went along to hear Lydia speak to the councillors, with another 26 apologies recorded as not being able to come along but sending their support. Having the community on board, also through numerous surveys, as well as the overwhelming support from local businesses, are crucial reasons for why we persevere, showing the need for safe, non-road, all-weather train services to be running again along our Northern Rivers line.

The decision will be made at the next council meeting whether they will support a dual use of the railway corridor, projected to run between Lismore, Bangalow, Byron Bay, Mullumbimby, Billinudgel and to the top of Byron Shire.
